Growers with glyphosate resistant weeds in their area are strongly encouraged to consider one or more applications of Sugarbeet Mix, Phen - Des 8 + 8 or B & B Plus to control or prevent resistant weed development. Such an application will give significant control of glyphosate resistant Common Ragweed, Waterhemp and Roundup Ready canola if applied correctly to cotyledon size weeds. Resistant weeds continue to increase in incidence and severity in MN & ND. Weed management can be achieved with conventional herbicides; however, it can be very challenging. Kochia resistance to glyphosate has been documented throughout the Great Plains including ND. Resistant Kochia without a doubt will be the greatest threat to loss of glyphosate use in sugarbeet. Contact your agriculturist, consultant, chemical retailer, or extension specialist to develop a comprehensive whole crop rotation weed resistance program for your farm. Failure to respond to weed resistance issues today will increase the risk of loss of glyphosate for weed control in sugarbeet.
