Quality and Safety

Quality and safety are ingrained in everything we do at American Crystal Sugar. From seed to sugar, our growers and employees are committed to the highest industry standards in food production, workplace safety, and responsible operations.

Consistent Quality, Every Time

Whether it’s sugar for America’s favorite food and drink brands or feed for farm animals, our products touch lives every day. We take that responsibility seriously. Each employee plays a role in our quality plan, ensuring everything we produce is safe, consistent, and reliable. When our customers reach for our products, they know exactly what to expect.

Safety Standards and Certifications

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Feed Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)

Passed in 2011, the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) updated FDA rules to focus on preventing food safety issues rather than just responding to them. At American Crystal, we believe in and fully comply with these standards, with prevention built into every step of our production process.

Global Food Safety Initiative

Each year, we recertify with the Safe Quality Food (SQF) program, meeting the strict standards of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). SQF audits require documented food safety policies at every step—from farm to fork—ensuring we deliver safe, reliable products.

Ethical Sourcing

When sourcing sugar inputs, we implement strict measures to ensure commitment to ethical practices. Our goal is to work with like-minded partners who prioritize responsible production, follow labor and environmental regulations, and uphold responsible business practices.

Workplace Safety

Our people are our most important resource, and no priority is higher than their safety. We foster a culture where every employee owns their safety and that of those around them. As active promoters of safety, we believe all accidents are preventable and share a collective responsibility to eliminate risks and unsafe conditions.
