Sugarbeet diseases become problematic when there is a susceptible host, a favorable environment for disease development, and the presence of disease. It is vitally important to choose Tolerant/Resistant sugarbeet seed varieties if a particular disease is present in fields. For many diseases this is the only way to control them. For Rhizoctonia and Cercospora, correct fungicide timing with favorable environmental conditions works in combination with resistant varieties to optimize disease control. Proper crop rotations are also beneficial in breaking the disease cycle.
